What's new

v12.1 [Jan 31, 2013]
The map has seen a lot of high impact data submissions from all over which contains new tracks, points of interest and corrections to various existing roads, tracks and points of interest.
In Namibia the Damaraland region has seen a big overhaul in terms of rivers, river bed trails and tracks in this vast area. Most of these were form the research done by Johan Snyman who is busy writing a book on the area and his work as always is very thorough.
In South Africa were added in a lot of secondary roads in the previous release and were introduced various corrections received from data members. Gauteng however is yet to receive a major overhaul in terms of secondary roads. Various intersections in Johannesburg and Pretoria has also been revised.
For Zambia and Angola there are plenty of new roads and tracks added and the border between these two countries have been surveyed for viable border crossings. Angola is still seeing major construction work and subsequent changes to the map.
For the T4A Africa Guide which is included on the SD card as a GPI file, it was added a huge amount of new content, especially on towns of Botswana and Namibia. This was as a result of our on-going research for our book on Namibia and Botswana. The camp sites of South Africa have also been updated to include contact details, descriptions and facilities.
The road alerts have been removed from the SD card as too many people find these intrusive when traveling. Road alerts have however been split into various categories and are available as a free download from the Tracks4Africa website.
For Zimbabwe and Zambia, 3000km of new roads have been added and it seems that these two countries are attracting a lot of new tourists.
The Morocco map has been reworked and a lot of new roads data has been added based on historic data which has previously not been processed to its full extend.
Map Coverage:
-717 775 km of roads, detailed tourist coverage and fully routable (3% increase from 12.05)
-119 717 points of interest (2.5% up from 12.05)
-Most complete and detailed protected areas (national parks, game reserves etc) in Africa – 1451 parks in total.
-8 251 accommodation listings (4% up from 12.05)
-2 949 camp sites, the most complete camping data base in Africa (6% up from 12.05)
-4 563 places to eat or drink (6% up from 12.05)
